Athina Poda-Konstantinidou was born in 1989 in Thessaloniki, Greece. As a child she enjoyed spending copious amounts of time drawing and playing make-believe. Both would come in handy years later when she decided to study Illustration and Animation.
Before completing her studies, she had already settled on pursuing a career in children’s books illustration, a choice driven by her lifelong love and fascination with fairytales. Her visual inspirations – which include the work of Pre-Raphaelite painters like J. W. Waterhouse, as well as that of illustrators, from Edmund Dulac to contemporaries like Trina Schart Hyman – mirror that fascination with myths and folklore. It’s these fantasy themes that allow her to escape to idyllic scenes, where time and space do not exist and worlds are inhabited by timeless characters like Snow White and knights in shining armour and otherworldly, legendary figures like the Lady of the Lake and La Belle Dame sans Merci.
To chronicle her imaginary journeys to these worlds, however, she uses a very much worldly medium: watercolours. Apart from painting, she also makes jewelry.
Athina Poda-Konstantinidou is in 1989 geboren in Thessaloniki, Griekenland.
