Alexandra Dawe lives in magical Devon, in the south-west corner of the UK. She shares her home with her husband, two children, two guinea pigs and two cats.
Alexandra’s love of folklore, legend, myth and faery tale, particularly those of Britain and Europe, has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. When she was 14 she first saw the film “Labyrinth”, and the documentary “The Making of Labyrinth”. Greatly inspired by the film and the techniques used to make it Alexandra followed a career in props, models and special effects for many years. “Labyrinth” also introduced her to the work of Brian & Wendy Froud, and she began to collect many books on faery and fantasy art and artists.
After taking a break from film work to start a family Alexandra tentatively began to paint, exploring mythic themes. She began taking her work to faery fayres in the UK, and making friends with other fantasy and mythic artists through these events. She is one of the founding members of the annual Exhibition of Mythic Arts and Crafts (EMAC), with Kelly Potts- Martinez and Chris Down, and worked with the Chagford Film-making group on their recent project, “Tam-Lin”, currently in post-production.
The Making of the Labyrinth’.
